This Fall, Wilco returned for a visit to the neighborhood java roasting joint...aka Intelligentsia's Cupping Lab to pick a new bean. The winner comes from Piendamo, a municipality located in the heart of the Cauca growing region in Colombia. It boasts an abundance of red fruit; cranberry, pomegranate, and cherry alongside a naval orange acidity...combined with honey and cane sugar for a sweet finish.
This year, we are offering an entire micro-lot. What's that you ask? A 'lot' of coffee is a part of the entire harvest from a single farm. A 'micro-lot' could be from a specific hillside within that lot and, for a number of reasons, is superior to the rest. That also means there is a finite number of bags available, so once it's gone, it's gone.
This particular micro-lot comes from a group of small-scale growers whose farms average about two hectares each. This year is the first in many that they’ve decided to collaborate as a group in the hopes of forming a lasting association for future harvests and benefiting from the many advantages that can come with being part of a collective. As part of the process, they all agreed to follow similar quality control standards when wet milling and drying the coffees, and it seems the experiment worked.
This micro-lot serves as the absolute best part of the entire Colombian Piendamo lot. The coffee is astounding and we know you'll agree.
The Wilco / Intelligentsia partnership offering is a micro-lot of the larger Piendamo lot acquired by Intelligentsia Coffee in 2011.
